OTOH as TNJ notes, there are probably some out there that may / do. It features the correct vintage specifications such as a long neck tenon, serial number on the orange label (not the back of the headstock), Kluson tuners, & Mickey Mouse ear cutaways. It sounds awesome and has a chunky neck to boot. But I don't think any Custom Shop 335 Dot I've seen compares to the Historic or the '13 Memphis TD with the original spec woods and hide glue (at least the examples I've seen). This guitar is in awesome shape and was crafted by the Memphis Gibson Custom shop to replicate the 59 ES-335. Nashville issue, after playing the '13 Memphis I no longer think that's a relevant/decisive factor.
IMO I would go with the Memphis based on my own experience playing a couple but you definitely want to play it first/have a return right.
Gibson Custom Shop 1959 ES-355 Reissue Stop Bar VOS Electric Guitar - Ebony. Classic 57s (which I happen to like in semihollow & hollowbodies). Our Take: Take everything that made the ES-335 such an insane guitar, and bling it out. The Memphis is equally well made and sounds a tad clearer & more open, maybe it's the woods and hide glue, maybe it's the Burstbucker 1 & 2s vs. We are talking two instruments that are in the 9.95-9.98 range IMO. I also have a lot of time with a '13 Memphis 335 TD (Historic Burst) (the one made with the vintage accurate bracing woods and hide glue) that - to my shock and my friends' - sounds even better. That said, I have many hours experience with a particularly spectacular '01 '59 335 Historic that more than a couple of the local pros I know say holds its own with a vintage '59 335.
I agree with play before pay, get something you can return if it's not exactly right.
